Fear

I think it's time I came clean.

Recently, I've developed this fear of dying with a full bladder. I'll have to urinate REALLY BADLY, and I start to get nervous that I'm going to die before getting the chance to relieve myself and for all eternity I will wander, unfulfilled.

I have no idea why I would develop this fear unless it was in my cards.

But I just took care of business, so currently I am absolutely, unflinchingly, unafraid of death.

P.S. I drank Ethiopian mead last night and English mead tonight. I don't know why it's so associated with Vikings - the Ethiopian mead is 7 times better.

ALSO - I had grog a few weeks ago. PRETTY GOOD.

Bush in China

One of Prezident Bush's top priorities in his recent visit to China is human rights. He visited a church and spoke about the repression of religion. This is all well and good, but China is flooded by sweatshops if Bush's priorities were truly human rights then he would have denounced their practices and demanded strict labor laws. Maybe visit a factory and inspire the workers there. But I guess that might endanger the production of cheap toys during the upcoming holiday season.

"May God bless the Christians of China. [but not you sweaty little heathens]"

Where to next year?

Uh, yeah so I have no clue what I'm doing next year.
My choices grow fastly enough to replace the ones that disappear, so at least that's good.

So maybe,
Pittsburgh - CarnegieMelon doing Engineering and Public Policy. but they don't have funding, so they might send me to ...
Slovenia - The major university there is doing research on renewable energy and I might get funding to go there for a few months to a year as a student of CMU, but only working on research then come back to Pittsburgh and finish up the phd. That's looking kind of shaky now with deadlines and the like, so someone there suggested....
Manchester, UK - doing some electrical engineering type research on renewables and their distribution. doesnt sound very fun. but its only three years and I would get my phd there instead of from cmu.
Chicago - I applied to a few jobs there doing energy analysis or wind power management stuff.
Africa - get back to my roots and just enjoy life.

I'm really not very pumped about any of these (except for africa, of course). I'm kind of hoping just to stay in Chicago for a bit and work. The manchester one would start in june, and i'm going to be in europe until the end of june anyway, so i wouldnt get to spend time with my slammin' buds back at home first.
GROAN. GROAN.

now im in the computer lab stressed out and watering a bit. and that asian dude who always fucking sits next to me and farts these nasty ones is hovering over me. AND THIS MAKES THE TEARS FLOW LIKE WATERFALL.

i'm seriously not ready to leave this place (not the computer lab, because i really cant handle the farts, but champaign). it's been some times, but fast times. (now he's sitting on my table right next to my hands, thats really weird, wtf get off plz thnx)

lets play spades? intermediate lounge 2? fst gm plz

"The power-factor angle δ is determined by the difference in angle between Peoria and Bloomington."

I've been spending most of the night/morning avoiding writing a lap report. If I just focused on it, then it would take two hours tops, but I hate writing them so much that I avoid them as much as possible. There was this very cool show on public access that Pat and I watched in the wee hours. "Ethics in America" It had a huge panel (at least 10 people) discussing hypothetical situations related to their fields. One was on military orders and included several generals from different branches (includiing wes moreland and some fucking badass military guy with a hook hand) and peter jennings and mike wallace and priest that loooked like dracula and newt gengrich and other related people. another one was about corporate ethics and the public and had supreme court justice antonin "scabies" scalia, lawyers, judges, media, CEOS.
It was nice to see everyone talking intelligently without screaming in eachothers faces. There was no sensationalism about it. No one was saying anything for shock, but they were still candid with their views. No word mincing. very respecting and interesting. It was originally shown in 1988/ I wonder if it was populr then and whether a similar program would be successful today. i think people are sick of the bickering pointless debates that are popularized on cable news networks. no ones trying to enlighten or inform anyone. they are just preaching to their respective choirs and hoping to rock their opponents face off. now, i am one for an occasioanl face rocking, but please everyone, lets step back a little and discuss things like hook handed military dudes who would take no prisoners: calmly, thoughtfully, and respectfully.
if i saw half of these people on bill o'reilly or the chubbs report, my blood would boil. current talk atmospheres are not conducive to viewer contemplation. ok, thats enough of saying the same thing to avoid work.

imran, i enjoyed your show tonight. i hope you are having a good time in internal machine voltage.
ryan, i hope terminal voltage is treating you fine. i may see you when i am out there in two weekends.

ramblingly yours,
tom

FOOL FOR THE CITY

I know this news might be hard for most of you to take, but Foghat's original guitarist Rod Price has passed.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/03/24/deaths.ap/index.html

I know most of you are thinking, "Does this mean Foghat won't play at the Hoffman Estates 4th of July Fest this summer?"

Don't worry. Rod wasn't a part of the current Foghat lineup, so we might get to see them again this year promoting their 2003 release "Family Joules." The tracklisting looks promising:

MUMBO JUMBO
HIT THE GROUND RUNNING
HERO TO ZERO
LOOKING FOR YOU
*THAMES DELTA BLUES
LONG TIME COMING
FLAT BUSTED (AND OUT OF GAS)
SEX WITH THE EX
I FEEL FINE SELF MEDICATED
I'M A ROCK 'N ROLLER
MEAN VOODOO WOMAN
VOODOO WOMAN BLUES
*(Dedicated to Jason… Dave's biggest fan)

Rod - I hope you enjoy a Slow Ride up to heaven.
LEAD FUMES AND CHURCH

I did a lot of soldering in class today. The smell reminds me of church. Like the ashy container the priest would shake around. And the candles I would light in the sand - adding an extra one every two years or so when a grandparent died.
And my brother throwing up all over my dad's suit jacket on Easter. Those killer icons with the dragon slayers.
The Orthodox Church is awesome - and full of smells. In many ways, it is like an ECE lab.

I'm getting some wicked face surgery tomorrow morning. It should be serious times.

If I don't make it, I just wanted to let you all know that I'll miss you all. Except for Sara.

I kid. But I really do hate Imran.

15,000 to 30,000 black Sudanese have been killed in Darfur while the world sits still. 2,000 Americans die and the world cries.

When the Americans are attacked, two governments fall with the help of several countries. 150 Rwandans and 150 Nigerians will be in Sudan shortly.

Humanitarian efforts apply on the behalf of the powerful.

Sudan needs more oil.
